The sponsors of the 1998 WERS (WERS98) are actively considering the case for a fifth WERS, subject to securing the necessary funds.

Over the summer of 2002, the sponsors consulted interested parties on the broad design of WERS, including: the sampling population; survey content; and, survey outputs. A paper outlining their conclusions will be made available over the coming months.

In the meantime, the sponsors remain interested to receive comments on detailed aspects of the survey design, such as the design of particular questions. Comments of this nature should be sent to Barbara Kersley at the Department for Trade and Industry:
