Profile
Lourens Broersma is research associate at the University of Groningen. He obtained his Ph.D. in econometrics at the Free University at Amsterdam in 1992. He has worked at that university as assistant professor until 1996 where his main field of research was dynamic processes on labour markets. After working at the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, he joined the University of Groningen in 1998 as research associate at the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. His major research topics are regional labour markets and innovation and productivity in services. He is involved in wide range of projects. The two main research projects are a set of regional labour market studies on behalf of local and provincial authorities and the so-called SIID (“Structural Information Provision on Innovation in Services”) project on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. This involves construction of a database with innovation indicators for different service industries and conducting industry-specific research on innovation and their effect on performance. He is a member of the Groningen Growth and Development Centre at Groningen University and is a fellow of the Groningen research school “Systems, Organisation and Management”.
