Profile
Mary O’Mahony, the EPKE project co-ordinator, is a senior research fellow at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. Since joining NIESR in 1987 Mary O’Mahony has researched and led projects on a wide range of topics, most falling under the general umbrella of ‘International comparisons of productivity’. Earlier research concentrated on deriving internationally consistent measures of fixed capital stocks, measuring productivity levels and growth rates in manufacturing and market services and the impact of human capital on international relative productivity levels. In 1999 this research was co-ordinated into a widely cited sectoral dataset comparing labour productivity, capital intensity, labour force skills and total factor productivity for five countries, the US, the UK, Germany, France and Japan. This sector productivity database is currently being revised and updated and will shortly appear on the main NIESR web pages. She has led or been involved in research projects on a wide range of topics related to productivity including, most recently, studies of the electricity supply industry, the ceramics tableware industry, evaluating the cost effectiveness of English local authorities, and the impact of R&D on company performance.
