We are delighted to invite you to our Autumn 2021 Economic Forum, at which we will present and discuss NIESR’s latest forecasts on the UK and global economies, with an opportunity for you to ask questions.

Activity bounce-back in the UK and globally has, thankfully, been faster than expected. However, it has brought some unwelcome guests to spoil the party – inflation and supply shortages. Our Autumn Economic Outlooks will analyse how these forces will evolve in 2022 and beyond. Will growth fade as inflation erodes living standards, and is inflation merely transitory or more enduring? How will the Bank of England and other central banks respond to the unfurling picture, and what does this mean for households, firms, and the labour market?

Key themes throughout the pandemic focused on divergence – between countries, age groups, occupations, and industries. How will these divergences evolve – will they widen or narrow, and how will government policy affect different groups and generations? What is the outlook for the UK’s nations and regions? Who will gain, and who will lose?

Globally, we will explore the return of inflation and the dilemma this poses for central banks when the world is still below full employment. We will analyse the effects the roll-out of vaccines and the American Rescue Plan will have on global activity across countries and sectors. Will Covid-related divergences between advanced economies and emerging markets widen or narrow, and what effects will central bank tightening have on that?

This is a time of huge uncertainty. Our team of experts will cut through the fog of questions and provide clear and sometimes surprising answers.
