The prospect of leaving the European Union seems already to have opened up a gap between growth in the UK and the rest of the OECD. At this briefing we will talk about recent changes in monetary policy, prospects for next week’s budget and progress on the negotiations for a Brexit. We will also provide an overview of the likely impact of leaving the EU at the regional level in the UK. The discussion will be led by Dr Garry Young, Director of Macroeconomic Modelling and Forecasting and Professor Jagjit Chadha, NIESR Director.

Separately, we wanted to make you aware of a new initiative in collaboration with the University of Warwick.
Forecasting with NIESR is a three day executive course in Economic Forecasting aimed at trained economists who are seeking to produce forecasts for their organisations or need a better understanding of how to present forecasts to seniors in their organisations.
Under the guidance of NIESR staff and other recognised international experts in forecasting, participants will by the end of the course be able to produce simple model-based forecasts themselves, understand the sensitivity of forecasts to surprises, and be able to communicate the risks to senior stakeholders in business and government.
