NIESR Press Release: NIESR Appoints New Director

The Council of Management of the National Institute of Economic of Economic and Social Research is pleased to announcement that Professor Jagjit Chadha will be taking up the post of Director in May this year. Professor Chadha is currently a Professor in the School of Economics at the University of Kent and Mercer’s School Memorial Professor of Commerce at Gresham College. His previous academic posts have been at the Universities of Cambridge, Southampton and St Andrews and he has also worked as an economist at the Bank of England and BNP Paribas. Throughout his career he has been a commentator and researcher on a wide range of macro-economic policy issues.
Tim Besley, Chair of the Council of Management, said “Jagjit Chadha presented the trustees with a compelling vision for the future of NIESR, recognising the importance of its strong independent voice at the centre of UK policy debates. His blend of academic and policy experience will underpin the strategic leadership that NIESR needs in the coming years.”
Jagjit Chadha said “I am very excited at the prospect of working with so many excellent economists at the Institute. Since 1938, NIESR has consistently provided an authoritative narrative on the UK economy and through our research and analysis we will continue to do so.”
