The National Institute Economic Review are publishing a special issue on Climate Sustainability: Evidence and Policy.

The special issue will feature two sub-topics:

  • Sub-topic A: COP26 and Its Aftermath
  • Sub-topic B: Issues in Climate Sustainability

Sub-topic A will provide academics, policymakers and practitioners the opportunity to discuss and appraise the aims, objectives, achievements and failures of the COP26 process held in the UK in November 2021, and to articulate the challenges the COP process faces going forward.

Sub-topic B will provide researchers the opportunity to contribute original research applying economic and/or evidence-based argument to the areas of climate change mitigation and adaption, energy, the environment, biodiversity, state regulation and energy governance, climate change and the macroeconomy, financial markets, and the relations among them.

Submissions can cover one of the two sub-topics, or a combination of both.

Our aim is to host a workshop to support the special issue in London in May 2023, giving participants the opportunity to share and gain insights into meaningful contributions to the field. Final drafts will be due on 24 May 2023.

Manuscripts can be one of two types: a conventional research article of up to 6,000 words in length, or a shorter paper focused on a specific policy question, of up to 4,000 words in length. Selected authors are expected to take part in a hybrid event in May, hosted by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research where they can either present their paper in-person in London or join online. Presentation at the workshop does not at this point guarantee that your paper will ultimately be published.

After further selection and review, final papers will be part of a Special Issue on “Climate Sustainability” published by the National Institute Economic Review (Cambridge University Press) in 2023.

All submissions will undergo peer review. Please submit your here, and select the appropriate article type “Climate issue” when submitting your paper.
