Dr Chiara Manzoni
Chiara Manzoni is a Senior Social Researcher at NIESR. She is a mix-methods researcher with expertise in a range of methodologies, including ethnography. qualitative interviews, focus groups, survey design and analysis, policy and programme evaluations, evidence reviews and scenario analysis. For ten years she conducted in-depth qualitative research with vulnerable Roma living in slums in Italy, Spain, Romania and former Yugoslavia.
Chiara’s research interests situate across the study of migration patterns and integration of migrants. She is particularly interested on the issues affecting vulnerable groups, including young people, ethnic minorities and their education and labour market prospects. She has expertise in research on casual work and the gig economy and on programme and policy evaluation at the national and EU level. She has experience on programme and policy on youth unemployment and on characterising the geography of new employment dynamics. She has also undertaken research on refugees’ journeys into sustainable employment, on EU immigration policies for third country nationals and on the discrimination and access to employment for female workers with disabilities. Her research has been funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Department for Education, Department of Work and Pensions, Low Pay Commission, Equality and Human Right Commission, European Parliament, EuroFound, European Commission, The Royal College of Nursing, the European Spatial Planning Observation Network, the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, Agence Nationale de la Recherche, the Council of Europe, Careers and Enterprise Company, Nuffield Foundation and Education and Endowment Foundation.
