How employers set pay for young people

Methodology
Funded by the Low Pay Commission, this project seeks to better understand how employers set pay for young people. Comprised of an evidence review and in-depth qualitative research with employer bodies, trade unions and employers, it will explore the factors that determine pay level for young workers, in order to provide robust evidence on employer behaviour in youth wage setting. The findings of this project will therefore inform the LPC’s future review of youth rates, as well as other policy proposals that could complement the minimum wage of young people in the UK.
This project began in March 2018, and completed in September 2018.
