Summary & aims

The intervention aims to improve knowledge and understanding of Children’s Social Care processes and issues, resulting in reductions in inappropriate contacts to Children’s Social Care, and reducing DSL stress and anxiety. This project is funded by What Works for Children’s Social Care (WWCSC).

Methodology

NIESR is evaluating the impact of the scale-up programme, which will run in mainstream secondary schools in Greater Manchester. The programme is envisaged to involve all ten local authorities in Greater Manchester, led by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. The evaluation will explore impacts on contacts and referrals to children’s social care, as well as impacts on the wellbeing of DSLs themselves, through a randomised controlled trial. The evaluation will also explore how the programme is implemented, costs of delivery and help to inform whether the programme could be rolled out on a wider scale in future.
