Trade union membership and influence, 1999-2013 (presentation to TUC's Leading Change program)

Presentation on trade unions' membership, organizational resources and influence in Britain, 1999-2013. The material was presented to trade union officers attending the TUC's 2014 Leading Change program. The presentation draws on data from the Certification Officer, the Quarterly Labour Force Survey, the Workplace Employment Relations Survey and the British Social Attitudes Survey. Measuring performance pay: using the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings and the Monthly Wages and Salaries Survey (seminar presentation)

A seminar presentation outlining the opportunities provided by the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) and the Monthly Wages and Salaries Survey (MWSS) for the analysis of performance-related pay. Discusses the content of the surveys, their sample designs and issues relating to the use of the datasets deposited with the UK Data Service. Delivered at NIESR on 6th November 2014.

The UK Productivity Puzzle

Presentation of paper at Institute of Education. The paper reviews the literature on the UK's productivity "puzzle", examining some of the main culprits or suspects  that may explain recent trends.  It contributes to the empirical literature by testing some hypotheses in new ways, in order to shed further light on patterns of productivity growth among British workplaces over the period 2004-2011. It concludes by considering the future and comments on the prospects for UK productivity growth over the next decade or so.
