Destitution, Exclusion, and Strategies for Well-Being

There is widespread concern that the fruits of economic growth have not been widely shared, and that recent events such as the Great Financial Crisis, Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic have only widened the gap between rich and poor.

Research at NIESR seeks to improve the data available for studying poverty, inequality and wellbeing. Our research also aims to bring greater understanding to the economic, social and political processes which determine the extent of poverty and inequality and, through qualitative research, provide insights into the experiences of those groups at risk of exclusion. We aim to assess the effectiveness of government policies designed to improving living standards and well-being.
