Whilst a recession was narrowly avoided in 2022, our latest UK Economic Outlook highlights that the contraction in real personal disposable income coupled with anaemic GDP growth, higher inflation and an ongoing cost-of-living crisis means it will nevertheless feel like a recession for many.

Ahead of the Chancellor's Spring Budget, we examine what factors he may need to consider. What is the current fiscal headroom? How can he address some of the big challenges facing the UK? What measures can he introduce to support households and regions?

This event will commence with a presentation on the current UK economic position, before opening out into a discussion of some of the priorities and policy choices that may be in store.

Speakers:

  • Stephen Millard, Deputy Director for Macroeconomics and Modelling, NIESR
  • Jumana Saleheen, Chief Economist and Head of Investment Strategy Group, Vanguard Europe
  • Katharine Neiss, Chief European Economist, PGIM Fixed Income
