Jenny Bates

Jenny is a senior civil servant and professional economist with extensive experience of UK policymaking and government.

She is currently Director General, Indo-Pacific at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), having previously worked within the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) dealing with EU negotiations, devolution and international trade and as Chief Economist and Director of Analysis. She is a member of the Government Economic Service and has worked in HM Treasury in a range of international roles.

Jenny was appointed as a trustee of NIESR in 2019.
