Dr Edoardo Masset

Edoardo is an Associate Research Director in our Public Policy team.

Research Interests

Edoardo is an expert in the evaluation of public policies and programmes using methods of causal inference (randomised trials and observational studies), and in the synthesis of evidence (systematic reviews and meta-analyses). His research focuses on the impact of policies and projects on  different dimensions of people’s living standards such as education, nutrition and food consumption, mortality, employment, poverty, and inequality.

Education

Edoardo holds a PhD in Development Economics from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex (2010), an MSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wageningen (2001), and a BA in Political Science from the University of Turin (1994).

Employment

Before joining NIESR Edoardo was Associate Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where he was Deputy Director of the Center of Excellence in Development Impact and Learning, an FCDO-funded initiative designed to develop new evaluation methods for complex interventions in international development.

Prior to that he was Deputy Director and Head of the London Office of the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), an organisation dedicated to fund and promote the evaluation of development interventions.

Before joining 3ie he was a Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, and a consultant at the Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank, where he conducted research on the effectiveness of projects and policies to improve people’s living standards.
