Frances Cairncross was Interim Director of the NIESR from October 2015 to May 2016. Previously she was a senior editor on the staff of The Economist for 20 years, and then Rector of Exeter College, Oxford. She also chaired the Economic and Social Research Council and latterly the executive committee of the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
