Professor Carolina Garriga

Carolina is Professor in the Department of Government at the University of Essex, and Deputy Director of the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis.

Research Interests

Carolina’s research interests include international and comparative political economy, and the influence of domestic institutions on international cooperation. Her current research includes the study of central banks’ governance, the political determinants of foreign direct investment, and the political economy of conflict.

Employment

Prior to joining the University of Essex in 2018, Carolina was associate professor at the Centre for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) in Mexico. She has also been a visiting professor at University Torcuato Di Tella in Argentina.

Carolina has published in leading political science and economics journals, such as the Journal of Politics, International Studies Quarterly, the Journal of Peace Research, the Journal of Conflict Resolution, Governance, Regulation & Governance, Economic Modelling, Economic Analysis and Policy, and other outlets. She is the author of a worldwide dataset on central bank independence, covering 190 countries since 1970.
